Dear all

Very good news- the UKs first inhaler recyling scheme has begun- see http://www.gsk.com/uk/consumers/complete-the-cycle.html for more details including to find out whether pharmacies near you are participating- if so maybe create an advice slip to go with inhaler prescriptions so patients return them to pharmacies which will recycle rather than just incinerate them?

BJGP article - Carbon Footprint of Patients Journeys

In this months BJGP, Liz Andrews from the Bradford Institute for Health Research ane her colleagues write an article on the Carbon Footprint of Patient Journeys through Primary Care.  They conclude that the modes and distances of patient travel can be accurately determined and allow appropriate carbon emission calculations for GP practices. Although challenging, there is scope for identifying potential solutions (for example, modifying administration systems and promoting walking) to reduce ‘avoidable’ journeys and cut carbon emissions while maintaining access to health care.
