Sustainability Ideas for Hospitals

Amy Alsop
Amy Alsop • 22 April 2013

My name is Amy and I am the junior doctor ‘Sustainability Fellow’ for the Severn Deanery in the UK. It is a new post this year so I have a blank slate to work with. It is a post I have taken on in addition to being a full time junior doctor. My job description is to use my role as a clinician to help promote sustainable working practices in the deanery and thus reduce carbon emissions.

I am in post for two years and I have a lot of time and energy to put into projects. I am keen to get ideas from other people about sucessful sustainability projects they have been involved in. If you have any such ideas then please let me know.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Amy

Yes we are doing a lot in Plymouth.  Have a look at our recent report on sustainable procurement

http://www.wrap.org.uk/content/sustainable-procurement

We are also developing projects with Dentists and continuing our Waste managment research.  We have new projects developing sustainability in health professional curricula

can I suggest you come to the Institute of Sustainable Solutions Research Annual meeting on the 29th April. Contact paul.hardman@plymouth.ac.uk or look it up on the web.  This will be our annual showcase of all we are doing across all the faculties in Plymouth and give you an opportunity to network with projects you might want to get involved in

Best wishes

Jane
