Atlas of Health and Climate: joint publication by WHO and WMO

On 29 October 2012 the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) published jointly an Atlas of health and climate that provides scientific information on the connections between weather and climate and major health challenges ranging from diseases of poverty to emergencies arising from extreme weather events and disease outbreaks.   

SHE Network update & invitation to telemeeting: 15 November 2012, 2pm

Members of this network are invited to join a telemeeting 2-3pm on Thursday 15th November 2012.

The meeting will review recent activity including the GMC curriculum consultation, Higher Education Authority curriculum development grant activities, upcoming SHE Workshops and other Meetings / Conferences / Publications.

Proposal for consultation on recommended learning outcomes in sustainable healthcare

On the advice of the GMC, the Sustainable Healthcare Education Network is planning a national consultation with undergraduate and postgraduate educators to refine and validate our recommended learning outcomes from sustainabilty teaching in medical eduation.

AMEE Presenation by KCL: What did medical students learn from discussion of climate change?

This powerpoint, presented at the AMEE conference, includes a series of quotes from KCL medical students' essays after a ‘climate change’ workshop, covering direct and indirect impacts, healthy equity, social determinants of health, environmental impacts of healthcare etc.

GMC consultation on the Medical Licensing Assessment - ends 30th April 2017

The GMC is consulting on the Medical Licensing Assessment which will apply to UK medical students, EEA and International graduates and aims “to create a single, objective demonstration that those applying for registration with a licence to practise medicine in the UK can meet a common threshold for safe practice.” (GMC-MLA consultation

Sharing advice about E-learning about environmental sustainability

There are many existing e-learning resources about environmental sustainability. It could be useful both for learners and for those planning courses if we can develop this list / 'catalogue' of e-resources.

International group working on Sustainable Healthcare Education

Following a workshop at AMEE 2016, medical educators and students from around the world have been working together to develop approaches to developing and delivering Sustainable Healthcare Education (SHE).

The group includes representatives from Denmark, Brazil, South Africa, Canada and USA. So far, we have:

- worked to further explore the relevance of the SHE core learning objectives (developed in UK consultation by the SHE network) internationally, drawing on outcomes from the workshop, which included international participants
