Sustainability in Global Eye Health Programmes
I was delighted to finally meet face to face most members of the Environmental Sustainability Working Group (ESWG) of the International Agency of Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) at the beginning of October in Dar es Salaam.
The IAPB is a coordinating, umbrella organisation of over 150 members globally - NGOs, charitable eye hospitals, universities, research centres and training institutions - leading international efforts in blindness prevention activities.
Its ESWG was started 2 years ago to actively tackle issues around environmental sustainability of and for eye health care. The group took the opportunity to meet up for a 2 day workshop in advance of the IAPB’s Council of Members meeting on 7th and 8th October in Tanzania to develop its strategy for supporting IAPB members to embed environmental sustainability in their eye care provision globally.
Recommendations developed during the workshop were discussed with the wider IAPB audience during the second day of the meeting. We were delighted with the very positive response from the audience and an emerging commitment to tackle environmental issues of eye health care.
Attached are the slide sets presented during 2 workshops with the wider IAPB audience.
