Green Nephrology Summit
On 25th February the Campaign for Greener Healthcare hosted the first Green Nephrology Summit. Sponsored by Baxter Healthcare the event provided a forum to share experience and discuss ideas on how to transform the renal clinical pathway.
There are various factors that make the renal service a good starting point for clinical transformation: it is relatively small; its power requirements are significant and it undertakes good analysis of patient data.
Speakers included David Pencheon, Director of the NHS Sustainable Development Unit, Donal O'Donoghue the National Clinical Director for Kidney Care and Muir Gray, Director of Knowledge into Action.
A wide range of practical measures were discussed including measures to reduce the consumption of water, energy, to reduce travel and even laundry. Baxter Healthcare provided a useful insight into the steps being taken in the private sector.
A smaller working party is expected to evolve to agree a list of actions to maintain momentum.
