Nature's role in enhancing dementia care

Hi,

I work for the Sensory Trust, a charitable organisation that uses nature and nature-based resources to support people with long-term health conditions such as dementia, and their families, to enjoy physically, mentally and socially active lives.

We are increasing our range of training packages to offer those caring for people living with dementia the opportunity to learn how nature can be used to enhance their lives.  In hospital settings this could be looking at making use of the outdoor spaces to help patients with dementia cope with being in a hospital environment and we wonder if this might be an area of training that members of this network would be interested in.

We are looking for help from network members to ensure that our training package will enhance dementia care and support within healthcare environments, for those living with dementia and those caring for them.

The training package is in the early stages of development and potentially would be a 2-hour session which could be delivered via:

  1. Face-to-face, in-person
  2. Live online
  3. Online e-learning

We would really appreciate it if you have time to answer the following short questions:

  • Would you be interested in learning about how nature supports dementia care and developing skills and resources that you could use in your role?
  • Which of the above-mentioned methods of training would you prefer?
  • Do you have a budget for training and if so, what would you consider to be a fair cost to pay for the above-mentioned training methods?
  • Would you prefer
    • group training  (max numbers to be decided)
    • having only 1 or 2 participants at a time
