Wales know the job in simple tonight: beat Hungary to qualify for Euro 2020. The pain of missing out on last year's World Cup, due to a home loss to Ireland in their final qualifier, brought the project back down to earth after the semi-final run in Euro 2016.

But Gareth Bale, fit for his country, says reaching the transcontinental tournament would rank alongside the nation's achievements of three years ago.

Wales ended a 58-year wait to play at a major tournament in 2016 and eventually reached the last four in France under Chris Coleman.

Over three years on and Ryan Giggs' young side will qualify for Euro 2020 by beating Hungary at home on Tuesday.

"The experience of qualifying for the Euros was massive," Bale said ahead of the winner-takes-all clash in Cardiff.

"It was something I'd never done before and to do it again might be a bit more impressive. The youngsters have come in and done really well.

Bale had been out for a month with a calf problem before Wales' 2-0 win in Azerbaijan on Saturday that, coupled with Slovakia's defeat in Croatia, put qualification destiny in their own hands.

The Real Madrid forward played for an hour before making way for the returning Aaron Ramsey and says he is fully fit to take on Hungary at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Perhaps it was fate that these two would be drawn to go head to head in their final group match, in what is very much a win-or-bust encounter. Three points will be enough to guarantee the winner's place at next summer's finals, with the loser consigned to the lottery of March's 16-team play-offs.

A draw won't be enough to see Wales through automatically but they are already assured of a play-off spot, while a point in Cardiff would leave Hungary hoping that Azerbaijan can do them a favour against Slovakia in the group's other game.

Wales manager Giggs admitted his side had needed a helping hand to keep themselves in contention for automatic qualification, with Hungary losing two of their previous three games ahead of Tuesday's clash.
