Syringe driver batteries

Dear all,

Batteries in many syringe drivers are changed daily and will undoubtedly still have a lot of life left in them. I know in our institution we try to put them in the battery recycling bin but I wondered if there are any other options eg working with the fire brigade so they can distribute the batteries to those living under the poverty line for whom battery costs may be a barrier to using smoke alarms?

I know there are new drivers that can have battery lives of a lot longer however our organisation has decided they are not for us at present.
