Launch Event for the 'Guide for Green Walking in Mental Health Recovery'
This launch event for the Guide for Green Walking in Mental Health Recovery is co-hosted by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare.
Green Walking in Mental Health Recovery is an initiative seeking to improve access to green spaces for general adult psychiatric inpatients. The Guide for Green Walking in Mental Health Recovery expands upon the learning from Green Beacon sites across eight NHS Mental Health Trusts, where over 100 new green walks took place in a three month period. There was overwhelmingly positive feedback about the green walking groups from both service users and staff.
Green Walking in Mental Health Recovery is funded by the Network for Social Change, delivered by CSH and endorsed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
This launch event was due to take place at RCPsych's central headquarters but is now happening online. It will be opened and closed by Dr Adrian James (Incoming President, RCPsych). The keynote speakers are Dr Geraldine Strathdee (National Clinical Director for Mental Health, NHS England) and Professor Catharine Ward Thompson (Director, OPENspace Research Centre).
Attendees of the event will include senior management from Mental Health Trusts, clinicians, service users, researchers, commissioners, regulators and mental heath charities with the aims of:
- Encouraging change within inpatient secondary mental healthcare by recognising that access to green spaces should be available as standard practice.
- Facilitating this change by utilising the Guide for Green Walking in Mental Health Recovery and case studies from Green Beacon sites to exchange knowledge and ideas, and by developing personal connections with network members.
