Unhealthy Investments Panel Event and Report Launch
Healthy Planet UK, Medact, the Climate and Health Council, the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare and Medsin are co-publishing a report which makes the health case for divestment from fossil fuels, following the BMA's early lead (and that of many other organisations including the Rockefeller Brothers' Fund and World Council of Churches) with its vote in favour of divestment in summer of last year. The report argues that there are medical, moral, and financial imperatives for health organisations to divest from the industries driving dangerous climate change and air pollution, and towards investing in a healthier future.
To mark the launch of the report, Healthy Planet and Medact are hosting an evening of discussion and debate on climate, health and fossil fuel finance at LSTHM on February 3rd. Speakers will include Rachel Stancliffe, Director of the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare, Jon Hoare, Director of Investor Networks at ShareAction, and UCL energy researcher (and author of a recent Nature paper on unburnable carbon) Christophe McGlade. We hope you can join us for what promises to be a lively and informative evening!
