Green Respiratory Fellow 2011-12

Job Advert

What will respiratory medicine look like in 5 years’ time, when carbon rationing is re-shaping the NHS?  Do you want to take a lead in that transformation?

The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare is starting an exciting project to improve the environmental sustainability of respiratory medicine, focusing in particular on COPD. We wish to appoint a healthcare professional in respiratory medicine for a one-year period, as a fellow.

The successful candidate can either be employed directly by, or seconded to The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare from their current post and would be encouraged to continue at least one session a week of clinical work.  Under supervision by The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare the successful candidate will learn about carbon modelling of clinical pathways and develop sustainable models of respiratory medicine.

The position will provide a unique opportunity to develop highly transferable skills in clinical leadership and systems improvement, while gaining a detailed understanding of environmental sustainability – an area central to the future of clinical care.  Anticipated outputs include presentations at relevant national and international meetings, and publication of a paper in a peer-reviewed journal on the carbon footprint of respiratory medicine in the UK.
