New outdoor gym equipment and woodland walks help preventative care in Doncaster

The Friends of Woodfield Park, a community group in Doncaster, have recently set up a weekly woodland walk in the grounds of the former St Catherine's Hospital adjacent to Tickhill Road Hospital. Last week, new outdoor gym equipment was installed in the grounds to encourage more community members and patients to exercise for their health and wellbeing.

The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare is involved as this type of work forms part of our four principles of sustainable clinical practice:

1. prevention
2. patient-centred care
3. lean care pathways
4. low carbon alternatives.

CSH obtained a grant to fund these activities from the People's Health Trust , using money raised by HealthRich through The Health Lottery.

Hi Jacqueline,

Thanks for the post - sounds like a brilliant project. When I was working in this area, we installed green gyms and they were always busy. People just stop on their walks and have a little go - free and easy. I always think every park should have them if possible.

The funding that you got from Health Lottery - is that available for other organisations to apply for? I hadn't heard of it before, but would like to promote this to other parks people.

Kind regards, Michelle
