Sustainable surgery in primary care

Good morning

After Newsletter 88 I had a conversation with the GPs in our practice who do minor surgery about trying to reduce single use items. It sounds like we have already made advances in this area.

But one problems we are coming against is the relaibility of collection and delivery services from CSSD. This is sometimes leading to wasted appointment as the correct kit is not available. And it is leading to wasted trips (and associated carbon) when we go to get the kit and it is not there.

In addition it was noted that using reusable kit from CSSD requires there to be contracts drawn up and this is only practical if you have regualr high usage of surgical kit.

I just wondered if other people were having similar problems else where in the country and perhaps to get some ideas on how to improve things locally?

Many thanks

Craig
