NHS Carbon Literacy E-Learning Pathway: Half-Day Online Workshop

Emma Burlow

The Carbon Literacy Project, working in collaboration with Greener NHS and e-Learning for Healthcare (ELFH), designed a 2-part hybrid Carbon Literacy course specifically for NHS employees.

It is made up of an e-Learning module, and a half-day workshop.

Lighthouse Sustainability are pleased to deliver the half-day workshop part of the course to NHS employees, enabling learners to submit pledge forms to the Carbon Literacy Project and become Carbon Literate.

What is Carbon Literacy?

Carbon Literacy is an awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis (Carbon Literacy Project).

The Carbon Literacy Project was set up to give everyone, everywhere, a day of training on Carbon Literacy - and in doing so, empower people to make positive change. Today, over 96,000 individuals have been certified as Carbon Literate and that number is rising fast.

What is Carbon Literacy for Healthcare e-Learning?

Carbon Literacy for Healthcare e-Learning offers a flexible training approach for professionals to develop Carbon Literacy knowledge and skills, providing them with the skills and agency to deliver high-quality care while reducing workplace contributions to climate change. Using a range of activities, discussion breakouts, video and more, this workshop engages and inspires healthcare professionals, enabling them to feel confident acting on and talking about climate change.

Who is the course for?
The e-Learning pathway is suitable for all NHS staff, specifically focused on individuals who find a full day of live training difficult to schedule. This course is open to NHS employees with a valid NHS email address only.

How is the course delivered and what does it contain?

The course is made up of 5 x 30 minutes of e-Learning modules (available on the NHS Learning Hub) followed by attending a 4-hour live workshop (this part is delivered by us at Lighthouse!).

Topics covered are the same as within our Generic pathway but have been adapted to be delivered flexibly.

The workshop engages individuals with a blend of activities, discussion break outs and video content.

Please note, NHS employees must have completed the e-Learning module before attending this workshop.

Learners must complete both the e-Learning and attend a workshop, before submitting their evidence forms to be certified Carbon Literate. You will receive a certificate and certified footer logo from The Carbon Literacy Project on successful completion of an Evidence Form.

This course has been created in partnership with Greener NHS, e-Learning for healthcare and Health Education England. Course development funded by NHS England.
