Occupational Therapy Susnet Networking Event - Sustainable Occupational Therapy Playbook

Ben Whittaker

At this event, Janet Craik (Rehabilitation Lead, CASCADES: Creating a Sustainable Health System in a Climate Crisis) will be discussing the CASCADES Sustainable Occupational Therapy Playbook.  This includes background information, resources, and considerations to guide more sustainable and climate-resilient occupational therapy.  You can find the playbook here: https://cascadescanada.ca/resources/occupational-therapy-playbook/

Sustainable occupational therapy practice means using resources to deliver healthcare today without compromising the health of  current or future generations.

The climate emergency is a health emergency, and as a result, addressing climate change has been described as the greatest health opportunity this century.

In 2012, the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) stated that occupational therapists need to “re-evaluate practice models and expand clinical reasoning about occupational performance to include sustainable practice.”

In 2018, WFOT published Sustainability Matters which detailed five sustainability guiding principles that are being considered by occupational therapy associations around the world. For example, The Royal College of Occupational Therapists have stated that these WFOT guiding principles need incorporating into UK curricula and have cited them in the RCOT professional standards and code of ethics.

Sustainable Quality Improvement (SusQI) methodology joins carbon reduction to the core aim of providing the best possible healthcare. WFOT’s QUEST strategy includes sustainability as one of the seven quality indicators applicable to all settings for occupational therapy practice.

Come along to this global networking event and meet other people who would like make occupational therapy practice more sustainable. All are welcome.

The ticket link doesn't work for me. It takes me to the tickettailor website, which requires me to set up an account. After setting up an account, every time I click the link, tickettailor asks me to "add new box office", as though I were an event organiser, but with no options for acquiring a ticket.
