Book your free ticket now.

Join us this Earth Day for a day of talks to inspire us all to look at the changes we can make at work to reduce waste, improve our carbon footprint, and support our Net Zero carbon goals.

Our second RUH Sustainability Day is an opportunity to hear from colleagues from the RUH, other NHS organisations, and those who work closely with the NHS on sustainability initiatives.

We’ll publish the full programme and timings on the link above as soon as it’s available, but some of the talks on offer are listed below. There will also be stands available in the PGMC dining room for you to look round in your own time, so you can find out more and ask questions about the projects on display.

There will also be refreshments! Bring a reusable hot drinks cup if you’d like a free hot drink. There will be free cake and fruit too, but please bring your own lunch.

The line-up includes:

  • A look at the Green Theatres project, including reusable theatre hats by Alex Witek, Chief Registrar for Trauma & Orthopaedics, RUH
  • Zoe Daggatt, Clinical Sustainability Fellow, Great Western Hospital, on the subject of Green ED.
  • An interactive talk on recycling for hospital waste from Samantha Oakley (SUEZ) – please bring along any items for advice
  • An introduction to the 'Gloves Off' campaign and what it means in practice, with the RUH's Lisa Hocking, Deputy Director Infection, Prevention & Control (IPC), and Associate Chief Nurse and Charlotte Sampson, IPC Nurse
  • An insight into the work happening in Respiratory by Jay Suntharalingam, Consultant Respiratory Physician, RUH
  • Information on all the exciting energy projects currently taking place at the RUH with Jack Roberts, Energy Manager and Rahul Mornix, Energy Officer
  • Diabetes Specialist Nurses Leon Massey and Rebecca George sharing more on how we are reducing blood glucose testing at the RUH.
