Consultation on the new Sustainable Development Strategy for the health and care system was launched last week with Sir Neil McKay, Sir David Nicholson, Duncan Selbie and Mike Farrar all committing their support.

A document summarising progress to date and next steps, with 3 proposals and 6 questions, forms the basis of the consultation. The consultation is open to all and runs until Friday 31st May 2013. http://www.sdu.nhs.uk/sustainable-health/engagement-resources/launch-ev…

The consultation and engagement programme marks a joint approach by the NHS Commissioning Board and Public Health England to sustainable development which will be crucial in driving forward new sustainable models of care that cross boundaries.

It's great that CSH's models of care and carbon footprinting of care pathways are mentioned in the consultation document as indicators of progress to date, along with other important achievements such as including sustainability in staff job descriptions, in the Public Health Outcomes Framework and as a requirement in the Clinical Commissioning Groups' authorisation process.
