A new report, Natural Solutions to Tackling Health Inequalities, highlights the evidence of the benefits of green spaces to health and wellbeing outcomes, and the inequalities in use of, and access to, natural environments across England. Written by Jessica Allen and Reuben Balfour from the UCL Institute of Health Equity, the report shows that people living in the most deprived areas are 10 times less likely to live in the greenest areas, while the most affluent 20% of wards in England have 5 times the amount of parks or general green space than the most deprived 10% of wards. The report explores how these inequalities contribute to health inequalities and proposes ways to improve access and use of green space, in order to improve health equity.
