The Department of Health is running a consultation on NHS car parking: improving access for patients.  Have your say by the DEADLINE 23 February.

Sustrans have prepared a very helpful submission which they are very happy for others to use - click here. Sustrans highlight the sustainability and climate change issues and, in particular, conclude:

Our most significant comment on the consultation is this: whatever may be done to facilitate and/or subsidise access to NHS sites by people choosing private motorised transport, at least as much should be done for those who travel by other modes. It is the poorest and the most deprived who have least access to car travel: subsidies to car use only will therefore increase inequality, including health inequality.

Jenny Griffiths, an independent public health consultant, said "It is really important that DH receive some comments from the health inequalities and low carbon perspective".

Jenny is a former joint co-ordinator of the Health and Sustainability Network which has just merged with the Campaign for Greener Healthcare.
