Has your kidney unit successfully introduced a green change in the last 3 years?  The Green Nephrology Awards celebrate the successes of local kidney services in introducing change on the ground.  The 2012 Awards are open to all kidney units or providers of kidney care in the UK, who may enter one or more local initiatives that demonstrate a benefit to the environmental sustainability of kidney care.

Shortlisted entries will be exhibited in poster format at the Green Nephrology Summit on 26 September, and will be included in a themed issue of NHS Kidney Care’s e-newsletter, Kidney Care Matters.  Prizes for outstanding entries will be presented at the Summit.  All entries will be considered for inclusion in the Green Nephrology online case library.

The judging panel will be looking for entries which:

  • demonstrate a measurable benefit to the environmental sustainability of kidney care
  • provide evidence of additional benefits (for example, improved patient experience or outcomes, financial savings, staff wellbeing, or benefits to the local community)
  • showcase a creative approach to addressing the sustainable healthcare needs of organisations and the community, OR demonstrate learning from/scaling up of previous Green Nephrology initiatives
  • highlight information which will assist other organisations to implement similar changes

The Green Nephrology team is happy to provide guidance on preparing entries, including help with quantifying environmental benefits.

Closing date: 10 September 2012.
