Research for Greener Surgery Conference 2023

The inaugural Green Surgery Conference being held on the University of Birmingham campus in the Great Hall at 10am-5pm on Wednesday, 13 December 2023. The conference focusses on decarbonising operating theatres both in the NHS and globally.

By attending the conference, you will benefit from:

The conference will include talks by:

Professor Lucy Chappell (CEO of the NIHR)

Professor Hugh Montgomery (co-chair, Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change)

Dr Abdul Ghaffar (founder, WHO Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research)

Dr Jessamy Bagenal (Senior Executive Editor, The Lancet)

In addition, we will be launching our green surgery programme, including DRAGON, a major international cluster randomised controlled trial (28,000 patients, 134 hospitals) which will be the first-ever (surgical) trial with a triple endpoint (clinical, cost, carbon). DRAGON will test reusable versus single-use gowns and drapes in theatre.

Tickets for the event are now FREE for those registering before the 15th of November- a £30 deposit (plus £3.22 Eventbrite fee) will be required when registering for the event, which will be refunded upon participation to the event (please note Eventbrite fee is non-refundable).
