This article contains recommendations from the WHO’s chief nursing officer, Elizabeth Iro. During the Royal college of nursing conference, it was raised that the role of the nurse is essential in responding to the effects on health due to climate change. It emphasises the need for nurses to have the right information, tools, and leadership skills to achieve this. This article also highlights how climate change is a public health issue and therefore falls within the scope of the nursing profession. However, other challenges that are currently impacting the nursing workforce, such as staff burn-out and well-being is discussed, due to staff retention decreasing and early retirement and abuse rising.
