All 212 NHS trusts in England – including more than 1,000 hospitals and healthcare facilities – now have a green plan in place, outlining how they will reduce carbon emissions while improving patient care over the next three to five years. The new, amended Health and Care Bill also now places a duty on NHS organisations to deliver net zero and take action to mitigate against the impacts of climate change in their operations, making the NHS the first healthcare system to embed net zero in legislation.

Innovation in all sectors is key to developing technologies to address this complex problem. Through addressing climate change, we will improve the health of the population now and in the future.

SBRI Healthcare - which is an Accelerated Access Collaborative initiative - in partnership with Greener NHS and the AHSN Network, have launched a call for innovations to both reduce carbon emissions and drive improvements in care for patients.

Applications are open from 24 August – 5 October and are open to innovators of any size based in the UK from public, private and third sectors including companies, charities, universities and NHS trusts.
