Kate Crossland • 19 February 2026

Following a pilot period, the Greener Palliative Care Award Bronze Criteria has been made available for free, for any organisation in the speciality to work towards environmental sustainability. Clear, achievable standards are set out alongside supporting resources, examples, and links to national work. The award works alongside key organisational changes, such as developing and delivering on Green Plans, while offering actions that interested people from all professional groups can work on.

Watch to hear about the full Bronze Criteria, next steps for the project, and how to get involved!

Thank you for getting in touch, and welcome to the PallCareSusNet!

It sounds like you've found the bronze criteria, but just to check, you can access the full criteria via the APM's webpage: https://apmonline.org/greener-palliative-care-award/. The specific link to the bronze criteria is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aGJNpbsfbXRGfaJflyNhVluXuLtKh4Qc/view

In terms of applying for the Award, it's a bit 'watch this space' as it depends if we get funding, which we are currently applying for. At the moment, any organisation can work towards the Bronze Award independently, and in particular we'd encourage you to collect evidence that you've met the criteria. Please watch out for updates as to how we will ask you to share your evidence for assessment and to apply for and gain an Award. This will probably be in around September 2026, and it's likely to be that we ask for evidence in some format- we're just not sure exact details quite yet.

The bronze criteria are the starting point. We're still following through our remaining pilot sites and fine-tuning the silver and gold levels. But all organisations have to meet the bronze criteria i.e. to get silver you also need to meet bronze, and to get gold you need to met the criteria for bronze and silver too. Hope that makes sense!

Additionally, as you're based in a hospice, there's also the Hospice UK Environmental Sustainability Network which you can join here: https://www.hospiceuk.org/innovation-hub/support-for-your-role/networks…
