This case study was completed as part of the Swansea Bay University Health Board Green Team Competition from October to December 2022 by the Endoscopy Team.

Issue to be addressed:
The excessive use of paper and inappropriate disposal of contrast in Endoscopy Units
Intervention:
- Paper Reduction Project:
Transitioned to electronic distribution of patient information leaflets.
Implemented electronic endoscopy reports and eliminated unnecessary print copies.
Introduced electronic patient questionnaires to replace paper surveys.
- Recycling of Contrast:
Established a process to recycle contrast waste, redirecting it from sharps disposal to recycling.

Key Learning Point:
The successful implementation of paper reduction initiatives requires ongoing communication, adaptation, and collaboration with stakeholders. Persistence and flexibility are essential in overcoming challenges.
