Scale and Spread of a Quality Improvement Initiative Promoting Metronidazole Intravenous to Oral Switch (IVOST) in the Acute Hospital Setting: Antimicrobial Stewardship, Patient Safety, Workforce and Environmental Sustainability Benefits

The aim of this study was to scale and spread a quality improvement (QI) initiative promoting appropriate intravenous to oral switch (IVOST) of metronidazole in all adult inpatient wards in NHSGGC Clyde hospitals (Royal Alexandra Hospital, Inverclyde Royal Hospital and Vale of Leven Hospital) and measure the impact on antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), drug costs, nursing workload and environmental sustainability.
