SusQI Project Report - Reducing Duplicate Medication - 2018 University Hospitals Southampton Green Team Competition

Resource Description: 

SusQI project on reducing duplicate medication ordering completed as part of The 2018 University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust Green Ward Competition.

Project Aim:

To reduce the amount of duplicate medication orders on the Acute Medical Unit through cooperation with patients and families.

Results: 

Savings below are based on an average reduction of 50 orders per week.

Environmental sustainability: Potential to save 11,180 kg CO2e per year.

Economic sustainability: Potential to save £26,000 per year.

Clinical outcomes: Potential benefit of patients not waiting for new orders of medication to continue with their treatment.

Social sustainability: It is important to note that there will be variation throughout the year depending on the number of patients and the staff demand, further support would be required to identify this variation.
