Advice for funding options for entonox CDU/MDU

Hi,

Our DGH is wanting to get an entonox CDU for our delivery suite. We're awaiting a quote from Beaconmedaes but does anyone have any advice about funding options? If you have a CDU / MDU, how did you secure funding? Our trust has no sustainability budget which doesn't help things, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Becca

In Scotland, nationally we are deferring introducing CDUs.

There are a number of reasons for this but essentially we are altering practices around entonox management to reduce system waste to around 60%. This has been effective at a number of sites that have run the nitrous oxide project. It is more than likely that how we supply Entonox will change over the coming years green tech should fit around this not the other way around.

Additionally, there are at least two innovations coming through that will be more economical than the medclair beacon medeas product. That should be available in 2025, if not sooner and these should be considered against your DGH need.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi Alifia,

Thank you, that's really interesting to hear. We've already got rid of our piped nitrous oxide but entonox is still widely used. Would you mind pointing me to some resources on how to manage our entonox better?

Many thanks,

Becca

Hi Alifia,

This is very interesting. Do you have any mroe details please? We are hoping to run leak testing very soon and cap off nitrous and fix leaks in entonox. Do you have any other suggestions around altering practices around entonox management please or any more details about the other innovations?

Many Thanks

I’d just tackle audit of leaks or wasteful manifold processes through the Lothian methodology and make sure that no systems have incumbent leaks, check your analgesia practice against your peer units to make sure that your women aren't being skewed towards one option over another without an improvement in birth outcomes and make sure the demand valves aren't attached when Entonox isn't in use as these can cause tiny leaks
