Call for SusQI Project Supervisors

Calling Clinicians in South East of England with an Interest in Sustainable Healthcare to suggest Quality Improve Project Ideas and Supervise KCL Medical Students to help complete these projects

What’s the opportunity? 

Many clinicians are keen to practice more sustainable healthcare but lack the
time needed to engage in quality improvement projects to do so. Partnering
with students who are motivated to help build a more environmentally and
socially sustainable healthcare system can make this much easier to
achieve.

What we are asking? 

As a supervisor you put forward a Quality Improvement project idea from
your own clinical area and then mentor a small team of Year 4 students from
Kings College London to devise, run and complete the project. Each small team
is made up of 3-4 students.  

We are specifically looking for project supervisors who have an interest in
sustainable healthcare at the following sites: Kings College Hospital/ Guys
St Thomas' Trust (including Evelina Childrens Hospital)/ Princess Royal
University Hospitals (PRUH)/ Medway/ Lewisham and Greenwich/ Maidstone and
Tunbridge Wells/Great Western Hospitals Swindon/ Maudsley Hospital/ Oxleas
NHFT/ East Kent Mental Health Trust and William Harvey Hospital.

You will meet with each team on four separate occasions (for 1-2 hours each
time) over the course of the project (Sept 2021-March 2022), provide
project supervision and feedback, and undertake summative assessment. 

What training will I receive?

The QI & EBP Module includes online e-learning lessons and recommended
reading, and provides the students with the knowledge they need, but the QI
project helps them apply what they’ve learned.  Sustainable QI resources
are integrated into the module e-learning materials and additional project
resources are found at https://www.susqi.org. KCL provides an online
faculty briefing/training session for QI supervisors. If you would like more
sustainable QI training you may like to join CSH’s SusQI or Teaching
SusQI courses.

How does this fit into the student’s curriculum?

The projects that you supervise will form part of the Kings College London
Year 4 MBBS program as part of the Quality Improvement and Evidence Based
Practice module in Stage 3, Year 4 of the MBBS curriculum.   The QI & EBP
Module includes online e-learning lessons and recommended reading, and
provides the students with the knowledge they need, but the QI project helps
them apply what they’ve learned.
