According to a new US based report 'Can Sustainable Hospitals Help Bend the Healthcare Cost Curve' sponsored by the Healthier Hospitals Initiative (HHI) and Health Care Without Harm, the implementation of sustainable initiatives across the healthcare sector could achieve savings in excess of $5.4 billion over 5 years and $15 billion over 10 years. These figures are based on a study of interventions in energy and waste reduction and improved operating room supply efficiencies at nine hospitals which achieved substantial savings for each individual hospital.
