Over the next five years, the General Medical Council will develop new standards and outcomes for medical education and training. They will start the process in 2024 with a listening exercise over a 12-18 month period to explore themes.
We have recently been told that a position statement regarding education for sustainable healthcare is being drafted to include enhanced recognition of planetary health and ESH. The GMC will state that this enhanced focus on ESH is to be incorporated into Outcomes for Graduates and other education regulatory documents. The GMC will continue work with Planetary Health Report Card representatives and other key stakeholders to achieve this throughout the 2024/25 review period.
