Members of the SHE network may already be aware of the Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education (GCCHE), which is hosted by the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.
The aims of GCCHE are to:
- Obtain commitments from health professions schools throughout the world to educate their students on the health impacts of climate change and bring together member institutions to share best scienti c and educational practices for doing so;
- Develop a core global knowledge set on the health impacts of climate change that all graduates of health professions schools should possess, as well as model curricula that member institutions can utilize for this purpose;
- Build a pipeline of health professionals who focus their work on the health impacts of climate change; and
- Support the development of global academic partnerships to foster mutual learning, particularly in under-resourced countries.
...so very close to the aims of SHE, but with a more international scope.
You can join GCCHE via their website, and gain access to resources including member teleconferences "to discuss strategies, challenges, and success stories for integrating climate and health education into health profession curricula."
It would be great to see the wealth of good examples from SHE members shared more widely. While climate change is increasingly taught within public health courses, the UK currently has some of the best examples of sustainable healthcare teaching that I am aware of.
