The Green Healthcare Leadership Programme, co-developed and delivered by the Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) and Nuffield Health, and supported by NHS England, is now accepting applications from registered nurses and midwives in bands 5 to 7 roles across the NHS in England.

This fully funded programme supports nurses and midwives to explore and enhance their personal leadership knowledge, skills and attributes empowering them to innovate and lead change. Each nurse or midwife will lead a sustainability quality improvement project focused on maximising opportunities for high quality, lower carbon clinical care, and improving patient outcomes, care and experience.

Thirty places are available for registered nurses and midwives in band 5 to 7 roles across the NHS in England and applications are particularly welcome from internationally educated nurses and midwives.

The programme takes place over nine days, spread across six months and is delivered in partnership with a team of leadership development experts from the Eden Project, Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA), FNF and Sustainability and Quality Improvement Leads from NHS England’s Nursing Directorate and Nuffield Health.

It offers a supportive learning space to develop leadership identity, capacity, and capability to influence organisational and patient outcomes and experiences at a local, system, national and international level. Using principles of quality improvement methodology to achieve sustainable clinical practice, delegates will develop projects aligned with prevention, patient self-care, lean service delivery and low carbon alternatives.

Participants will be supported to undertake a sustainability quality improvement project which will enable them to develop their knowledge and skills and apply their learning to practice. The outcome of the programme will be an ‘elevator pitch’ and poster which will be presented at a celebration event.

Previous participants have shared how, since completing the programme, they feel more confident to lead change, their voice is heard, and they can influence improvements to practice. The programme has been described as a “life changing” leadership experience, having significant impact on participants professional and personal impact. On graduation, participants will join the FNF alumni community and receive ongoing networking and leadership development opportunities through events, webinars, media engagement and policy thought leadership.

The deadline for applications is 12pm midday on Friday 8 September.
