Greetings from an OT Sustainability Volunteer

Hello everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself as one of the new OT Sustainability Volunteers!

I am an Occupational Therapist, specialising in Neurology at East Surrey Hospital and have a keen interest in service improvement, through using sustainable methods. My initial contact with CSH was in 2013, where I posted my first blog. Ever since then, I have been signed up to OT Susnet and following CSH on Facebook. When I heard about the chance to become an OT Sustainability Volunteer at CSH, I thought this is an opportunity I cannot miss!

My passion for the NHS and everything it stands for, holds a place deep in my heart. It is now more than ever, that the NHS needs our support to deliver sustainable and quality healthcare, whilst meeting the demands of our population. I think the principles and aims of CSH are valuable and achievable and I feel privileged to be given a chance to get involved in some of the amazing work they do.

My role as a volunteer over the next 6 months will involve writing case studies about how Occupational Therapists embrace sustainability in their workplace. My role will also involve exploring the great work that OTs are doing with the NHS Forest. I would love to hear how other OTs are embracing sustainable working in their healthcare setting – so please do get in touch!

OTs are probably the most resourceful, proactive and adaptable clinicians I know and as a profession, I believe we can make a significant difference, whilst promoting sustainability.  If we each make a small change in the way we work, we can drive the change that is paramount to support our healthcare system.
