Last year Hattie (Work Package 3 Project Manager) and Lucy (Clinical Delivery Lead) were able to visit Madrid and spend time with the team at Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz.

We were joined on our trip by Dr Marta Arias from Hospital Clínic Barcelona. Marta is now working with CSH as a Sustainable Kidney Education Fellow.

Prof. Alberto Ortiz, Chief of Nephrology and Hypertension at Fundación Jiménez Díaz, kindly hosted us at the hospital and gave us a tour of the department. We were impressed by the hospital’s electronic patient system, and it was great to hear about the department's role in large scale kidney disease prevention initiatives.

A dynamic, multi-disciplinary group of colleagues joined us for a workshop in the afternoon. Topics covered included the impact of kidney care on the environment, interventions to make healthcare more sustainable and the aims and objectives of the KitNewCare project . We discussed sustainable optimisations that could potentially be implemented at Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz. The team had lots of innovative ideas and were able to start planning how these could be actioned.

We extend a thank you to all the team in Madrid for hosting us and engaging in the workshop activities.
