We’re excited to share the launch of new resources to support more sustainable, equitable kidney care.
As part of the Mapping the Living Kidney Donor (LKD) Assessment Pathway project, supported by The Health Foundation, we've developed a free toolkit and carbon footprint calculator to help NHS teams analyse and improve their local LKD pathways. These tools are designed to reduce environmental impact, improve donor experience, and support greater access to pre-emptive transplantation. Whether you're working in renal services, sustainability, or quality improvement, these tools are designed to support meaningful change in your service.
We’re also kicking off online workshops to introduce the toolkit and support its use in practice:
Workshop 1: Introduction and Overview of Tools
3rd June (12:30–1:30pm) or
19th June (12:00–1:00pm)

This is really interesting - to see the variation in practice e.g. time to donation, number of visits (though clearly geography influences this), number of investigations etc. Also interesting that travel remains the big factor and great to include considerations around how to reduce this, with the caveat emphasised that the whole process equates to a much smaller carbon footprint than HD, so balancing the importance of donor experience.
