New 'Active 10' app from PHE to get adults active

Nearly 1 in 4 people in England are classified as ‘inactive’, doing under 30 minutes of physical activity a week, and face the greatest risks to health as a result. The UK Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) advise that targeting people in the ‘inactive’ category will have the greatest reduction in chronic illness.

Last month the One You campaign launched the ‘Active 10’ app to encourage people to do at least 10 minutes of brisk walking a day. Rather than just measuring distance or steps like other apps, users get feedback on intensity and time, as well as goal setting advice and motivational tips. It has been endorsed by the Royal College of General Practitioners and so far, the app has helped more than 50,000 adults get active! A first step to moving people out of the ‘inactive’ category and towards the CMO recommended levels of activity.

This app is part of a nation-wide campaign encouraging small, achievable changes with proven health benefits. In the words of Sir Muir Gray, clinical adviser to the One You campaign, “One You is designed to help every individual identify not only their risks but also the pressures they face in their life and the stress that results, and then support them with personalised tools and advice.”

Really useful to see this.  Thanks very much Liora.  Could this be promoted as part of admission discussions about patient's current physical activity habits?  Very interested to hear from anyone already doing/working on this.
