Hello, we have been sent an email from one of our Green Champions regarding a new device which is being rolled out at our Trust for patients with rib fracture and those who undergo laparotomy. It is a single-use infusion pump, and they were wondering if there are any reusable alternatives available? I'm not clinical but a quick search hasn't come up with anything.
Is anyone aware of any alternatives which may be less wasteful?
I've attached the photo fyi, thank you.
Morning, I wonder if this is helpful, again just a quick search and no expert on the subject;

this one seems reusable but I suppose it may depend what for

Is it a continuous infusion or patient controlled analgesia (sorry I'm also no expert and can't tell from the photo)? and why just to rib fractures and post laparotomy? I'm guessing it's patient controlled analgesia, if so why not use the standard PCA pumps (such as the one in this leaflet, attached)? If they used these before, you would need to find out why they've made the decision to go from reusable to single use, there may be a clinical reason (I can't work out what though).
Thank you both, it looks like patient-controlled so I'll share these resources with the pain team and try and find out the reasons!
