The Green Nephrology programme is looking for an enthusiastic health professional with experience in kidney care. After a brilliant first year, the programme is seeking to build the national Green Nephrology Network and raise its profile in the renal community.

The Green Nephrology partner organisations invite applications to a six-month fellowship to improve the environmental sustainability of renal care. The Fellow will be hosted by The Campaign for Greener Healthcare and may be either employed on a fixed term contract or seconded from their current post. They will receive training in project management and will learn about the environmental impacts of healthcare. The key purpose of the post is to support the further development of the Green Nephrology Network and build on the successes of the first Fellowship in 2009-10.
This is an opportunity to take a lead role in an exciting new dimension of kidney care, gain an insight into how policy is shaped at the centre of the specialty, and develop a wide range of skills in leadership and quality improvement.
Type of work / skills
- Engendering behaviour change (building a social movement for sustainable kidney care) through
- Recruitment and individual support of local representatives
- Recruitment and individual support of patient representatives
- Communication of key messages through a range of media (including presentation to local and regional meetings / training sessions)
- Design and management of campaigns/initiatives to engage local teams
- Facilitation of online events and discussion
- Development of case studies and tools for use by renal services
- Networking with NHS and private sector partners
- Presentation of findings (to conferences, web, and peer-reviewed journals)
Salary
Salary will follow the NHS payscale, and will be determined by the experience and seniority of the candidate appointed.

The fellowship will provide a unique opportunity to develop highly transferable skills in clinical leadership and systems improvement, while gaining a detailed understanding of environmental sustainability – an area central to the future of clinical care.
Anticipated outputs would include presentation at relevant national meetings, publication of a paper in a peer-reviewed journal on the role of telemedicine in a sustainable future for healthcare, and PRINCE2 qualification in project management.
Opportunities are available to extend the academic outputs of the post, through partnership with the University of Warwick or other Institutes of Higher Education.
