Is there any guidance out there for patients with CKD on sick day rules for medicines in periods of extreme heat?
Also any useful prevention fact sheets / patient information resources for patient in primary care with CKD to minimise progression of kidney disease / unplanned admissions with AKI? (outside of those available on Think Kidney)
Many thanks
Nuala
Hi Nuala, I have never seen any guidance for this and think it would be really useful for GPs. The national heat wave plan gave a list of medicines to consider but didn't say what to do or how to consider them. I formed a group to look at this a few years ago but then didn't have capacity to run it so it never went anywhere after 2 meetings. I am nervous that we are going into this summer without it. I have thought about whether to try to pursue this through emergency preparedness e.g. in NHS England as an issue of high clinical risk which needs urgent action before July. I think ideally we'd have some sort of expert consensus statement giving guidance to GPs informed by whatever evidence does exist, particularly lessons from elsewhere in the world where this can't be a new issue. If there is anyone from UKHSA is on this network then they might have more up to date info about whether any work is going on on this behind closed doors. Thanks. James
