Surgical instrument sets covers | Sustainable Healthcare Networks Hub

Hi,

We are currently having to cover all our instrument trays with costly (22p /each) bags to transport the used instruments from theatre to CSSD. This is a requirement outlined by CQC as we don’t have a ‘dirty’ corridor and have to use the only through fare in theatres.

My concern is the environmental impact of using plastic single use bags, manual handling, infection control.

Does anyone have a similar challenge and have found a more sustainable solution?

Thank you, we looked at those, but we have limited space and a few colleagues we concerned at the manual handling of heavy orthopaedic sets.

This is what we use to transport trays to CSSD as the door locks. There would be no need to cover in plastic.
