This financial year has resulted in a range of dental services being re-procured across the country but it’s debatable how much the procurement teams understand about sustainable dentistry and developing solutions that are designed for the future.
The recent procurements that have been advertised appear to have a complete absence about sustainability in fact most PQQ and or ITTs have no questions on this subject.
It's disappointing given that the NHS is supposed to be committed to reducing its carbon footprint and to introduce more sustainable ways of working. Even the most recent supposed digital solutions in dentistry seem to promote the use of paper and are not aligned to the NHS England vision of becoming paperless.
Sustainability needs to become more than a word; it needs to turn into action as part of a commissioning cycle.
