Very pleased that the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges has included my "Talking Point" on Sustainability and Quality in their new report on QI training (published 21 March).

You can find the relevant section on p62-63. It briefly discusses the importance of sustainability and relationship to quality in health care, and also the benefits of building it into the different stages of quality improvement as follows:

1. Setting goals: New motivation to contribute to QI, energy for change
2. Studying the system: Highlights wastes and opportunities which are often overlooked; stimulates radical thinking
3. Designing the improvement effort: Directs towards highest value improvements, future proofing
4. Measuring impact/ return on investment: Allows benefits to be communicated to broader audience, not exclusively re financial cost-benefit

(I'm currently expanding on all this in an article for the RCP Future Hospitals journal)

Hopefully this report is a great hook for future work embedding sustainabiltiy into QI education - undergraduate and postgraduate. Would be great to get everyone together who is interested in this!
