As music therapists, it’s not always clear how we can take steps to combat climate change. One area where we have enormous potential to create positive change is in our pensions (for those of us who have workplace or private pensions).

There’s about £2.6 trillion invested in UK pensions. Lots of it funds harmful industries like fossil fuels, tobacco, and arms. You can learn more about this at Make My Money Matter, who state that “having a green pension is 21x more effective at reducing your carbon footprint than stopping flying, going veggie and switching to a green energy supplier”. Here are their guidelines on ways to demand that your pension contributions are invested ethically. Many pension providers will offer their customers a choice over what areas they would like them to invest their money in - you can contact your pension provider directly to find out more.
