The Barwon Health Renal Service is recognised, worldwide, as an advocate for home nocturnal haemodialysis (hNHD). But, despite the major health and lifestyle benefits for patients using hNHD, we also appreciate the significant impositions and costs that accrue within home dialysis care.
In particular, these are the costs of power and water.
As we began to better see and then address the environmental impacts of dialysis in the home, we also came to better recognise that facility-based dialysis generated even greater environmental stressors. We resolved to address these issues at all our dialysis sites: both home and facility.
