International Green Nephrology

The International Society of Nephrology (ISN) has expressed an interest in supporting collective efforts to improve the environmental sustainability of kidney care.

This could include:

  1. Developing an ISN position statement on environmental sustainability in renal medicine. Working on this as a group would give an opportunity to share ideas and hopefully to come up with a call to action or a plan for how ISN affiliated societies and other groups might collectively start to address this.
  2. Working towards either a scientific session at WCN 2020 or an ISN Frontiers meeting on environmental issues.

ISN has offered to facilitate a small business-type meeting of 'green nephrologists' to discuss these ideas and any others, both at ASN in a few weeks in San Diego and also at WCN in Melbourne next year.

Dr. Katherine Barraclough, nephrologist in Melbourne, is coordinating plans for a meeting at ASN, and so far representatives are planning to attend from the Philippines, France, Australia and Brazil.

It would be great if any UK nephrologists attending the ASN could join this meeting. And it would also be good to hear from any who cannot be at the ASN but would be interested in supporting this international endeavour. Please get in touch!
