Removing Plastic from the operating Theatre

Hi

I am developing a project which may include some products which are more environmentally aceptable. I am having a problem with finding data to expose the amount of disposable plastic used in an operating theatre in the uk.

We are currently trialing a new bio degradable material which could replace huge amounts of plastics but without clear data the value can not be valadated.

Any help please.

Hi Darren,

Does your theatres have separated recycling? We do so it would be easy to check I'd imagine if you know where they are stored before removal- just weigh the bags!

Hi

We do have recyling system in place. This has been in place for some time. I am looking for data regarding the impact of plastics on a much bigger scale.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Darren,

I hope these articles will help.  You might be able to roughly estimate OT plastics generation if you know your total hazardous waste generation and estimate roughly 50-75% of this material (by weight) as plastics.

I'm interested in hearing about this biodegradable material!

Hi Darren,

Was wondering how you were getting on with your project. Do you have any information you can share?

Many thanks,

Harriet
