Greener AHP Week: Integration of Sustainability into the AHP Curricula

Jacqueline Gordon

Presentation: Integration of sustainability into the AHP curricula

The Council of Deans of Health (CoDH) have worked with a wide group of stakeholders across the four UK nations to develop a curricula guidance document for professional bodies and higher education institutions, supporting the incorporation of education for sustainable healthcare within Allied Health Professions (AHP) curricula and programmes. The guidance document was launched on 12th December 2023, and this session will provide an overview of the guidance and how attendees can engage with it as academics, learners or practice-based educators.

Jessie is a chartered physiotherapist and has specialised in paediatrics since 2008. She has worked across the breadth of health and care, most recently working for Guy's & St Thomas's NHS Trust since 2017 in her substantive role as clinical lead in the Evelina community physiotherapy team.

In 2022-23 Jessie participated in the Chief Sustainability Officer's Clinical Fellowship scheme, where she was hosted by the Chief Allied Health Professions Office and had a wide portfolio of national work focused on the integration of sustainable healthcare across several workstreams and between organisations. This year, she is working as a Senior Clinical Fellow within Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System on a range of clinical projects focusing on the ICB’s Green Plan and efforts towards net zero.

This Greener AHP week is an opportunity to:

  • share projects and ideas for AHPs to get involved
  • raise awareness of the links between health and climate change, the NHS net zero ambition, and the shifts required to build a Greener NHS programme, nationally and regionally
  • support each other and grow networks
  • consider what a greener NHS might look like and what the benefits can be for us all.
